The Boise Basin Library has experienced an amazing response to eAudiobooks. Our rural community spends much of its time on the road commuting to work, shopping for groceries, banking, attending extra curricular activities with our kids…. the list goes on. Audiobooks have always been popular and some in high demand with hold lists; with the downloadable books there is no more waiting or fumbling with tapes and cds. For the patrons whom are homebound or snowed-in the eAudiobooks library can come to them in their homes with thousands of titles to choose from. During a time when libraries need to be viable and progressive eAudiobooks is proving to be an unexpected advocate.

The response to eaudiobooks has been unexpectedly positive at the Snake River Library as well. In addition to the benefits described above, students are using the service to assist them in completing required reading. All seniors are required to read Dracula. Being able to listen while traveling or doing other activities has increased the number of students completing the book. Additionally, reading Dracula is simply out of the academic reach of some students. Listening while following along in the text improves comprehension for these students. Research continues to show that listening to good readers helps students become good readers. Special Education students and LEP students both benefit from listening to books as well as reading them. Everyday we hear another success story involving listening to eaudiobooks.
