ILA Board meeting

Well, Anne sent me a flash drive after only 2 posts (!) so I owe one.

Today I’m in the quarterly ILA Board meeting.  Plans for the annual conference are progressing.  It will be held in Idaho Falls.  There will be two preconferences (map cataloging and partners for consumer health reference), and a reception Wednesday evening at the Museum of Idaho.  30-odd workshops are scheduled, and 2 authors are lined up to give lunchtime talks.  It will be a lively and refreshing time.

The ILA Board meets every quarter, and has representatives from libraries all over the state.  At different times during the year, we discuss legislative priorities, advocacy, coordination with regional and national library associations (PNLA and ALA), and conference and professional development activities.  We try to coordinate closely with the work of the ICFL.  I’ve served on the Board for a couple of years, and have found it very stimulating.  I’m an academic librarian, and could easily focus on college issues.  On the Board I have learned a lot about the needs of school and public libraries, and am more dedicated to our cultivating our common interests.  You can participate, too, through the ILA’s divisions.  Check out the ILA’s activities and opportunities at our website:  http://www.idaholibraries.org
