We all know how tough it can be to find funding for new library projects, particularly ones that your administration might think of as risky. That’s where the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) grants through the Idaho Commission for Libraries can come to your rescue.
For example, I had an idea for my library to increase our capacity to provide programming involving video games for all ages. Since funding was too tight to fund a project outright, I rolled up my sleeves and applied for an LSTA grant last Fall. Fortunately, my grant was approved, which meant that my library would only have to provide a 25% match of the funds required to purchase six Wiis, six digital projectors, prizes and more.
I’ve included a link to an online copy of my grant, which you could use as a jumping off point for writing a grant for your own library. It doesn’t have to be for gaming (though it certainly could be!), but do check the current LSTA grant guide to make sure your idea fits all the eligibility requirements.
Why not help make an idea for your library a reality by applying for a grant? Maybe you could finally provide a new service at your library that you weren’t sure how to fund, but always wanted to offer!

Thanks for posting this. I’ve been frightened by the daunting process of an LSTA grant. Just looking at a successful sample helps.
I’m glad you found my grant helpful! It always helps to have a sample to work from!
