Well, not Rosie the Riveter, but still a woman that is just as powerful. Rosy is a tarantula that now resides in the children’s area of the library. She is part of our Summer Reading outreach to Catch the Reading Bug. Rosy isn’t technically a “bug” but she eats plenty of them. She has been a popular attraction among the local kids who want to watch her catch and eat something. She prefers eating in private though, and hasn’t put on the requested show.
Rosy has made her neighbors nervous. They rarely come out of their eggshell carton cave. If enough kids are around and noisy, they do hiss.
More neighbors are expected to move in in the next few weeks. A praying mantis and an ant colony are rumored to be coming. We may be crawling with bugs before the summer is over!

What a great idea for the Summer Reading Program, and a great fit for this year’s theme! I think I’ll let our children’s librarian know about this.
