One Day in the Life of a Librarian

I saw this idea to post a blog about what it’s like to be a librarian, but it would also work as Library Assistant, Page, Director, Circulation Manager, etc. I first saw it on Gina Perischini’s Blog, and then read it on the pages she linked from, namely Librarian by Day.

I did my own. It’s located here! I had a busy day! I hope you all will consider it! Check it out!

  1. Wow Amy–That’s a lot to do in a day. I wonder what my day will look like when I get it blogged?

  2. Recently my day consisted of a tense negotiation session with the roofing company who damaged carpet during a roof repair. Yes, damaged carpet due to hot tar that leaked through the cracks in the roof onto the floor, books, and shelves. The roofer didn’t want to turn it in to insurance and didn’t want to pay for carpet replacement. Next I arranged the installation of a new electronic message board and trained briefly on how to use it. Finished and sent of a grant, made the employee scheule for the month, did the weekly deposit, met with a newspaper reporter regarding summer reading, and the list goes on……..
At the end of the day I told a colleague, “All I wanted to do was read and talk to people about books”
I seriously questioned my decision to become a “librarian” . If it weren’t for Netlibrary and listening to books while I drive and work, I’d be illiterate…….
