2.0 Reference Tools

Reference “work” has certainly changed over the last 10-15 years. The Internet has been the main contributor to the change, and it itself is constantly changing. It used to be easy to look up phone numbers in the phone book, then with the magic of computers, it became quicker to find people using switchboard.com or anywho.com. Now those numbers have gotten harder to find without getting charged, or having to fill out registration forms. Some of the 2.0 tools, however, can be helpful. Using facebook and myspace to find people can be quite successful.

I’m sure there must be quite a few great new ways to find answers to the few reference questions we now get, but sorting through all the information is getting harder and harder. Bookmarking, tagging and making lists can be helpful, but it would be nice to have a concise, easy to use set of tools for some of us digital immigrants. Is there such a thing, or do I just need to continue to try to keep up with the myriad of ever changing 2.0 plug-ins, add-ons, extensions, websites, etc., etc., etc.?
