Sure enough, within 24 hours of putting Gimp 2.6.1 on our patron computers, we found a bug. A patron needed to resize some photos to fit on a standard sheet of paper. This particular bug prevented us from doing that. I followed up with a bug report to the makers of Gimp, along with dozens of other users around the world. The bug was fixed and a new software version 2.6.2 was released within the week. It took a few weeks after that to install the new version on all of the computers.
So far, few patrons have used the program. Library staff have played around with it and used it for some library related projects. I am not quite sure how to educate the public on it, or if there is any interest. Perhaps a night workshop on editing photos? Anyone else done something like this?
